Help For Sunnova Customers
A Solar Power World report from July 2025 says Sunnova worked with local installation companies to offer solar through third party ownership contracts, with customers leasing their systems from Sunnova. If your system has a Sunnova sticker on it and something stopped working, this page sums up what published reports and the company's own closure page say. Confirm current contact details before you rely on them.
What Happened
According to the pv magazine USA report of June 10, 2025, Sunnova Energy International filed for Chapter 11 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, intending to sell assets and business operations. That followed a Chapter 11 filing by its subsidiary Sunnova TEP Developer. The company said it would keep managing customer systems in the ordinary course for the time being, and the court approved motions to maintain customer programs and service. The same report says Sunnova got interim relief to keep honoring loan agreements, power purchase agreements, service agreements, and warranties during the case.
The pv magazine USA report of July 10, 2025 described an opening offer from Omnidian to buy Sunnova's servicing platform for $7 million, subject to other bids. The Solar Power World report of September 4, 2025 then reported that a new entity, Solaris Assets, formed by GoodFinch Management, had completed the purchase of Sunnova's assets and business operations, including its servicing platform, and that core operations were moving to SunStrong Management. The same report notes that SunStrong also manages legacy SunPower systems.
Who Handles Your Account Now
The Sunnova closure and support page (last updated November 2, 2025) says new owners acquired substantially all of Sunnova's assets, that Sunnova has ceased independent operations, and that SunStrong Management has taken over servicing for most in-service customer systems. It lists SunStrong as responsible for monitoring, billing, collections, and customer service on accounts the new owners acquired.
| Your Question | What The Closure Page Says |
|---|---|
| Do I keep paying? | Yes. Continue payments as usual until you get updated instructions directly from SunStrong. |
| Did my contract terms change? | No. SunStrong is to notify you directly if anything changes. |
| Who do I call for service? | Use the contact information in your SunStrong welcome email. |
| My install was never finished | SunStrong is working with GoodLeap on certain in-progress installs, and your dealer or GoodLeap is to contact you if your project qualifies. |
If Your System Needs Repair
- Find your agreement type. Lease, power purchase agreement, loan, or cash. Under a lease or power purchase agreement, the company that owns the system is generally the one responsible for maintenance, so start there.
- Contact SunStrong in writing. Give your account number, address, the date the problem started, and screenshots of your production. Keep a log of every call.
- Check the equipment makers. Panel and inverter warranties come from the manufacturers, which is covered in Solar Warranty Help.
- Do not hire someone to alter a leased system without written approval from the owner of the system. It may breach your agreement.
- If you own the system outright, any licensed solar company that services your equipment brand can work on it. Ask for a written scope first.
If You Never Heard About Any Of This
Some owners only learn about a transfer when their system stops producing. If that is you, find your most recent bill or payment statement to see who is collecting, check the closure page above, and look at the Kroll case site for Sunnova for court notices. If monitoring went dark, the inverter maker's own app may still work. See Solar Monitoring Stopped Working.
