Help For Mosaic Solar Loan Borrowers

Mosaic was a lender, not an installer. If you financed your solar with a Mosaic loan, its bankruptcy changes who services your loan, but reports say it did not change what you owe. Here is what published reports say.

What Happened

The EnergySage report updated June 10, 2025 says Mosaic, one of the largest providers of residential solar loans in the country, filed for Chapter 11 in the Southern District of Texas, citing challenges facing residential solar. It says Mosaic expected to remain fully operational and planned to maintain its loan servicing, and that it had funded over $13 billion in loans for more than 360,000 households since 2010.

The same report says that before filing, Mosaic told its partners there would be delays in milestone payments to installers. It explains that these payments are typically released at contract signing, at installation, and when the utility grants permission to operate, and that homeowners in the middle of the buying process might need to restart financing with a different lender.

The pv magazine report of September 30, 2025 says Solar Servicing LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Forbright Bank, announced it would acquire Mosaic, would not originate new loans, and would support existing loans. It says that under the deal, borrowers' payment terms and schedules remain unchanged, Mosaic's payment methods remain active, and a dedicated team was hired to help installers and loan owners resolve loans that were only partly funded at the time of the filing. That report gives a larger lending total, over $15 billion for more than 500,000 households, than the EnergySage figure above.

What That Means For Your Loan

Your QuestionWhat The Reports Say
Do I keep paying?Yes. Payment terms and schedules were reported as unchanged after the sale.
Did my payment method change? The September 2025 report says existing payment methods remained active.
Does the lender fix my system? No. A lender finances the system. Repairs go through your installer, its warranties, and the equipment makers.
My install was never finishedA pipeline team was set up for partly funded loans. Contact your installer and the loan servicer in writing.

If Your Installer Is Also Gone

The EnergySage guide to installer bankruptcy (updated January 7, 2026) says that if you took out a loan, in most cases you still owe the monthly payments even if the installer goes out of business. Keep paying while you sort out the system, and use Installer Went Out Of Business for the equipment and warranty side.

Steps That Help

  1. Confirm your servicer. Check your most recent statement and the servicer's official website. Do not change where you send payments based on a call, text, or email alone.
  2. Keep records. Save statements, your loan agreement, and any notices about the transfer.
  3. If the system never worked or was never finished, write to both the installer and the servicer, and gather utility bills and monitoring screenshots. See Solar System Not Producing.
  4. If you have a problem with the loan itself, the U.S. Treasury consumer advisory on solar leases points consumers to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for problems with a financial product.
  5. Get advice before you stop paying. Your loan agreement decides what counts as a default.
Be careful with anyone who calls or knocks unprompted claiming to be your solar company, or offering to take over your contract for a fee. Verify through the numbers on your own paperwork, your lender, or the company named in an official notice.
